The journey to implementing a new end-to-end solution, like 2020 Insight, is painful because it requires you to identify and confront your issues head on. The beauty is that this will ultimately become our strength. With 2020 Insight established for our multi-family business, we are exploring how we can leverage 2020 Insight in our adjacent customer and product verticals.
Background
Allied Stone Inc. is a family-owned business with decades of experience in the stone and countertop industry. They service all customer verticals, including residential, builders, developers, architects, designers, and end-consumers. Allied Stone Inc. has expanded to five major metropolitan areas in Texas and Oklahoma, allowing them to explore opportunities and continued growth into the cabinet marketplace.
A subsidiary of Allied Stone, Allied Interior Solutions, is the industry’s choice for multi-family cabinets and countertops. Providing a turnkey solution from design to completion, they are the first company to supply porcelain countertops for multi-family units throughout North America.
Challenges and objectives
With the growth of their business, Allied Stone Inc. quickly realized that their small business practices and manual processes would have to be reevaluated for their company to be more efficient and profitable. They originally had disparate systems and a lack of integration between systems; critical knowledge about inventory management, scheduling, and shopfloor execution were not being properly communicated throughout the company, resulting in an overall lack of visibility.
When looking for a solution that would support their expansion into the cabinet business, Allied Stone Inc. wanted something that would address their scalability challenges. Their goal is to increase production by 4x over the next two years. They wanted a solution that was flexible, tested and proven in the cabinet marketplace. A solution that offered experienced, trusted advisors who would help them navigate their growth and support their needs.
Solution
Allied Stone Inc. chose 2020 Insight as their enterprise cabinet manufacturing solution. As an industry-specific ERP with integrated MES and business management functionality, they felt confident 2020 Insight would run their day-to-day operations for cabinets successfully. They implemented the purchasing and inventory management modules first and are now live on the next phase, which includes order entry, shop floor execution, manufacturing machine integration, and scheduling.
The rollout was done in phases; the modular aspect of 2020 Insight helped Allied Stone Inc. move forward at their own pace. The adoption of the new solution was smooth and has helped tackle some of the major processing, forecasting, and visibility issues they were struggling with such as cost per cabinet, profitability, labor metrics, cost of quality, and more.
