Rendering quality is largely subjective. Many factors affect how people see renderings including how an individual’s eyes view things and their perception of those things. The typical goal is to have it look “real”, but our mind has the ability to adapt to what we see. The following tips are some good practices for adding realism to your renderings.
Use 1 or 2-point Perspectives
Avoid the “keystone effect” by showing vertical lines in perpendicular. Architectural interiors look best when shown in 1-point or 2-point perspectives.
Choose an Interesting Focal Point
Choose interesting angles and use photography practices to keep the viewer interested in what you are presenting.
Depth of Field
Depth of field is the amount of a rendering that is in focus. A shallow depth of field brings focus to a specific area of your rendering.
Avoid Wide Lenses
Wide lenses attempt to show more elements in the design, but in doing so, lose the point you are trying to show.
Use 5’6” Camera Height
Setting the camera height at the height of an average human pair of eyes (5’6”) allows for more realistic visualization.
